Reid McLain... has always been interested in the art of
movement. His curiosity began to be realized when he was
five years old and began taking jazz and gymnastics. His
interests in the discipline have been varied and diverse
ever since. With a background in jazz, tap, modern (Graham
and contemporary), African, ballroom, ballet, musical
theatre, Alexander Technique and hip hop, McLain grew up a
veritable dancing machine. He began teaching tap and ballet
classes to "wee ones" while studying musical theatre at the
University of Northern Colorado in the late 80s and early
90s. The spectacle of a fraternity guy over 6'2" tall
teaching tendú to students who only came up to his knees
left a lasting impression on many. Leaving the university,
he began performing professionally in musicals all over
Colorado in shows including Sweet Charity, Oklahoma and The
King and I. Among the highlights of his professional dance
career was performing as a Disney dancer for Walt Disney
World's 20th Anniversary tour. After leaving the
professional musical theatre circuit, he was left empty
with a need to keep active, since he never seems to be able
to sit still. Since his last name is Scottish, on a whim he
thought he would give Scottish dancing a try, not knowing
what the world of Scottish dance was about. 12 years and a
few Highland competitions later, he is directing his own
Scottish Dance school in Monument, Colorado with classes in
Highland, National, Hebridean, Step and Cèilidh. Helping a
fellow teacher start an enrichment program for inner city
kids in Denver has further sparked his passion, as he works
to help spread the love of Celtic dance (both competitive
and non-competitive) to many who would otherwise not get
the chance.
In addition to working on his dance school Reid is studying
towards his Masters of Business Administration, is a
volunteer mediator for Jefferson County Courts, is learning
to play the fiddle and works full time in the luxury travel
industry....
