progression from least experienced to most advanced, are:

A dancer can register from the age of 4.
Primary category dancers can compete for the following
dances only:
• 16 Pas de basques
• Pas de basques & highcuts
• Highland fling
• Sword dance
Beginners
‘Beginners’ category dancers can compete for
the following dancers only:
• Highland fling
• Sword dance
• Seann Triubhas
• Reel
• Trophy fling
• Flora
• Lilt
Novice
‘Novice’ category dancers can compete for the
following dancers only:
• Highland fling
• Sword dance
• Seann Triubhas
• Reel
• Trophy fling
• Flora
• Lilt
Intermediate
‘Intermediate’ category dancers can compete for
the following dancers only:

This is the highest category in SOBHD competitions and the
dancer remains in this category until he retires from
